The Foo Fighters took home 5 Grammys, together with ones for Best Rock Performance, Best Rock Song and Best Rock Album. Throughout his acceptance speech for Best Rock Performance, the band leader Dave Grohl shared some words that really stung rock's biggest threat -- laptop-driven music:

To me this award suggests that plenty as a result of it shows that the human part of music is what is necessary. Singing into a microphone and learning to play an instrument and learning to try and do your craft, that is the most significant issue for individuals to try and do... it isn't regarding being excellent, it isn't regarding sounding fully correct, it isn't regarding what goes on in an exceedingly laptop. It's regarding what goes on in here [your heart] and what goes on in here [your head].

When the band took home the award for Best Rock Video at the VMAs in 2011, Grohl created a press release that, when paired together with his one Sunday night, gets at an identical sentiment:

"Never lose faith (in rock music), " Grohl said. "It's harder, however it'll always be there."

His words return as no surprise for music audience around the world, considering rock's own obituary that has been written and constantly re-written within the past few years. In Britain, where a lot of of USA rockers has taken its cue from, pop albums outsold rock albums for the primary time in seven years in 2011. And whereas the Grammys are hardly the simplest barometer of the health of any type or genre of music, the other artists or bands that nominated alongside the Foo Fighters within the Best Rock Song class -- The Decemberists, Mumford & Sons, Radiohead and Coldplay -- are telling of the direction the genre is taking.

An article within the Guardian last month, however, titled "Rock music's death knell has nonetheless to toll," ought to provide Grohl some comfort.

"The obvious signs just like the prime forty do not extremely tell the story regarding the underlying interest in this rock music, the guitar-driven music genre," George Ergatoudis, the BBC's Radio one and 1Xtra pinnacle of music, told the Guardian. "This year we are going to begin to ascertain the pendulum swing back a bit."

What we're missing, Ergatoudis argues, could be a flagship band to rally around, a Strokes or Oasis that may begin the cycle once more. Ergatoudis will, however, purpose to bounce acts like Nero, Chase & standing, Skrillex and Pendulum who have blended rock with electronica, noting that it should return right down to how we have a tendency to conceive to outline rock, which, till recently, has stayed tied to the very music instrument of the guitar. At that Sunday night, this obvious trend toward electronic dance music, that has already been injected into pop music, was on full show, most forebodingly when house producer deadmau5 loomed higher than the stage in his signature, glowing mouse ears, trying like our new overlord.

Perhaps this can be simply an ungainly stage for rock music. After all, it's really weathered these death knells before owing to incoming acts (looking at you, 60s lady groups). within the meantime, Grohl does not appear connected any ill-will for the new children in city -- despite his words and comments, he and his band actually performed alongside deadmau5 Sunday and will later be noticed within the crowd, head-banging to deal with music.
